Journey of a Casual Disc Golfer
A hobby is defined as an activity done in one's leisure time for pleasure. Some enjoyment and escape from the day to day monotony of life. This is exactly what Disc Golf was for me! Throwing a round after a long day of work and erasing all the tension build up was welcome and necessary - something that made my day at the end of a throwing session.
This quickly changed from throwing for fun and changed into the necessary practice for the next tournament. Competition changed what was fun into job. Tournaments quickly too the fun away disc golf for myself. In my last tournament my mind quickly made the connection - you are PAYING to play with people you don't enjoy spending time with and causing frustration, anger and ultimately boredom. There was no comradery - card discussion centered around the need and want to get sponsored or what other "free" stuff the players were entitled because of signing up to play.
Change needed to happen. Cold turkey stopped all participation in the almost weekly events while also putting my entire bad away for quite some time. Fast forward late 2022 - a new course close to me caught my eye and needed to play it for some reason. The fun was back and while not an every day player anymore - I am a player again and it feel great!
This page will have the intention of sharing updates and stories of a (accepted by now_ below average disc golfer who will never be sponsored BUT has one hell of a time watching discs fly through the air!
